 Status Cards

You must have two (2) pieces of I.D. one must have a photo, when applying for your Status Card, if you are using your Status Card it must not be expired more than six (6) monthTo apply for a BC I.D., you must have a Birth Certificate and a Care Card.

 For Registration of Vital Events the Following documents are required:

 Birth: To register your new born child, we need Original Large Birth Certificate with both parents names listed, original must be submitted to INAC with the Parental Consent for Registration signed by both parent(s). It is very, very important that both parents are on the birth certificate and sign the parental consent form, so that the baby will receive full status.   

 Marriage:  Marriage Certificate and a Declaration of Surname on Marriage form.

 Divorce: Certificate of Divorce for divorces after 1986 or Divorce Decree Absolute for divorces before 1986.

 Death: Death Certificate

Items can be submitted to our office for Registration.

Band Transfers:

All Band Transfer(s) in/out are on hold until the Membership Committee reviews the LFN Membership Code, the Membership Committee is; Chief Janet Webster, Councillor John Haugen, Bobby Jumbo, Back-up, IRA, Pauline Charlie, IRA, the process will be: 1) reviewing and revising LFN Membership Code, 2) Community Meeting(s) with LFN Members for approval 3) Chief & Council final approval. 4) Referendum for adoption of Membership Code.

 Miscellaneous Amendments:

Forms are available at the office. Miscellaneous Amendments include: to add an Alias name, to Revert to Birth Name, verification and request to be assigned a new (unique) number.

 Any Band Members that need to make an amendment to their Certificate of Status, name change, Marriage name change, with INAC or correction on Birth Certificates from Vital Statistics etc. there will be approximately a 6-8 week waiting period

Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS)

DELAYED TILL POSSIBILY March, 2012

Documents that will be required when the new SCIS comes, INAC will be requesting for: Original Birth Certificate (mandatory)  photo I.D. D.L., BC I.D., care card etc.

If you have been married/divorced/widowed, they will be requesting for marriage, divorce, death certificates, please have these documents available to avoid delay.

 Betty Charlie & myself (Pauline Charlie) attended a Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs Forums on Indigenous Citizenship-Thursday, August 25, 2011, co-hosted by Tk’emlups Indian Band.

 OBJECTIVES:

  • Two high-level, one-day, Nation-based regional dialogue sessions for UBCIC members to discuss Indian Registration, Band Membership, and Citizenship.
  • Opportunity for UBCIC members to hear experts in First Nations citizenship laws regionally.
  • Identification of key issues and recommendations pertaining to Indigenous Citizenship.

 Next meeting is held on Tuesday, September 13, 20011, 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
